2004 Dodge Sling Shot Concept

Slingshot-550x412

The Dodge Sling Shot Concept from 2004 was designed for maximum fun and function. A light and speedy two-seat sports car, the Sling Shot combined a removable top with a three-cylinder engine that could squeeze 45 mpg highway.

Engineered from the ground up as a driver’s car, the Sling Shot employed a five-speed manual gearbox, four-wheel independent suspension, quick-ratio rack-and-pinion steering, and four-wheel disc brakes. The rear-mounted transverse engine developed 100 horsepower, shooting the Sling Shot from 0 to 50 mph in less than 10 seconds.

Inside, the cabin used machine-look metallic finishes and controls styled like engine parts to create a purposeful look and feel, evoking the powerful Dodge muscle cars of the ‘60s. For open-air motoring, the roof panel and side rails could be removed and stored in one of two available storage compartments.

“Sling Shot is a dynamic, creative look at the never-ending quest to offer visually exciting design, structural integrity, operating efficiency and the all–important fun-to-drive quotient in an affordable, entry level sports car,” said Trevor Creed, Senior Vice President, Chrysler Group Design, as he unveiled the concept vehicle at the 2004 North American International Auto Show.

The Sling Shot never went into production. But what do you think Dodge fans?  With its sporty handling, removable top and impressive fuel economy, would you like to see an updated 2013 version of the Sling Shot today?

Exclusive Automotive Trade-In Protection Now Offered

Melloy Dodge announces a new program that offers buyers trade-in protection against negative equity. The dealership is the #1 selling Dodge and Ram dealership in New Mexico, according to R.L. Polk, and the only Dodge and Ram dealer to offer this protection.

The Melloy Advantage Plan includes $2,500 in negative equity protection on new car or truck purchases, and $1,500 on used vehicles, included in the purchase. The program is available on new and used retail financed vehicles up to a 75 month loan term.
“Buyers today may want to trade in a vehicle that’s only a few year old for one that better suits their needs, but sometimes find they’re ‘upside down’ on their car loan,” said Bill Melloy, general manager of Melloy Dodge. “With the Melloy Advantage Plan, we will provide coverage to bridge that gap when they return to us for the trade-in and purchase, whether it’s for a new or used car or truck.”

Melloy’s Advantage Plan offers maximum coverage of 110% of MSRP and is based on NADA Clean trade-in value, less payoff. A customer may extend the coverage up to $5,000 on a new vehicle and $3,500 on a used vehicle, if they choose.

Melloy Dodge and Melloy Nissan are the only dealerships in New Mexico to offer the trade-in protection. For more information about the program, contact the dealership at 505-843-9600, visit them at 9621 Coors Blvd. NW, Albuquerque, just north of Paseo del Norte on Coors or visit the website.

Blu-ray video now available in Grand Caravan

12

Dodge calls this the end of “Are we there yet?”

The 2013 Grand Caravan is now available with a Blu-ray™ dual-screen video player on Crew and R/T models, an industry first.

The new video system, which promises four times greater image resolution, features a High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) input to support the latest digital gaming systems. Also provided are a -115 volt power outlet, 12 volt outlet, RCA Jacks and two USB ports to power and recharge cell phones, laptops, and other mobile devices. It’s the ultimate in empowering your personal connectivity.

Naturally, the Blu-ray player can play both standard DVDs and Blu-ray discs. In a nutshell, a Blu-ray disc has the same 120-millimeter diameter and configuration as a traditional DVD disc. However, a blue laser is used to scan the disc (hence the name Blu-ray) instead of the red laser used in previous formats, allowing information to be stored in far greater density. The result? Greatly improved sound and image quality.

This system is currently offered by no other auto manufacturer, and is just one more example of how  Dodge, the inventor of the minivan, leads the field with more than 45 safety, security, and technology  features, Super Stow ‘n Go seating , and 5-year/100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty.

Raising Diabetes Awareness

12

There are countless reasons to customize a car. Andrew Darville, a 20 year-old student at Saddleback College  in Mission Viejo, California,  modded his 2006 Dodge Charger to raise awareness about diabetes—a  disease he knows all too well.

“My family has been affected by diabetes a long time,” says Andrew. “My great grandmother passed away from diabetes the year I was born. My grandmother is 65 and has had diabetes since she was 40. My mom was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at 35. The doctors predict I will be diagnosed younger than all of them.”

“I got the car last December to go to school, not intending to do anything to it,” Andrew says. “Then I started going to car shows with my buddies and seeing things I wanted to do with my car.” The major mods include Borla exhaust, airbag suspension, Black Art 22-inch wheels, scissor doors on all four corners, and custom two-tone paint with diabetes awareness graphics on the hood.

“I just started creating and building up ideas. I worked on everything myself, except for the paint job,” Andrew notes.  Show credits so far include a feature spot in the Borla exhibit at the 2012 SEMA Show in Las Vegas. “I take the car not just to car events, but to diabetes events as well, including the Diabetes Walks and the Cruising for a Cure bike event.”

To learn more about Andrew and his Dodge Charger and to lend moral support, you can visit his car’s Facebook page, Care for a Cause.  “I created this car in tribute to my family and others that are currently in the same state,” Andrew says. “My love for cars began when I was 5 and knew every type of car that put rubber on the road. Once I could finally get my own car, I put all I have into it.”

2013 Dodge Charger pays homage to its past with limited-edition Daytona package

2013-dodge-charger-daytona-la

The original Dodge Charger Daytona was a bullet-nosed, winged menace on racetracks and is an amazingly collectible classic car today, and Dodge is hoping to bring back some of that nostalgia with the 2013 Dodge Charger Daytona. Limited to just 2,500 units, this new Daytona adds a little more styling and exclusivity than the similarly named package brought to the sedan from the 2006 through 2009 model years. We saw our first glimpse of this new package earlier in the week, but now we get to see the car in all of its blue glory at the LA Auto Show.

Starting at $32,990 for the Charger R/T and $36,495 for the R/T Road & Track (yes, that name is more than a little redundant) models, the 2013 Charger Daytona will be instantly recognizable with its exclusive 20-inch wheels, black hood and roof graphics, a satin black grille and decklid spoiler. The Daytona will only be offered in four colors – Daytona Blue, Bright White, Billet Silver and Pitch Black – but all will get a Daytona Blue engine cover.

Inside, the Daytona gets unique embroidering, stitching and piping with the cabin wrapped in Nappa leather on the R/T Road & Track and cloth on the R/T. Dark brushed aluminum trim, bright Mopar pedals, a 552-watt Beats Audio System and an individually numbered dash plaque finishes off the interior. On the performance front, the car adds a high-speed engine controller, 3.06 rear axle ratio, paddle shifters and performance steering and suspension setups.
