Your Monday Maintenance Tip: Keeping your car in top condition during the break-in period

1

So, you’ve bought your dream car and now you want to make it last at long as possible in top condition. It's best during the break-in period, typically the first 1,000 miles, to keep your speed under 55 mph  or to the speed recommended by your car’s manufacturer. Use only light to medium acceleration, keeping the engine rpms below 3,000 for the first few hours of driving.

Brad Keselowski and Dodge Conquer the NASCAR Sprint Cup

Nascar-win-550x366

In just his third year in the series, Brad Keselowski collected the NASCAR Sprint Cup title in the season finale last night at Homestead Miami. It was the first Sprint Cup crown for Dodge since 1975 and the first ever for team owner Roger Penske.

Keselowski comes from a famed Dodge racing family. His dad, Bob, and uncle Ron Keselowski raced Dodges in NASCAR, ARCA, and USAC back in the 1970s. Son Brad began his NASCAR career in 2004, driving the family’s Dodge Ram in the Craftsman Truck Series, where he was scouted and hired by Dale Earnhardt Jr. In 2010 Keselowski was optioned by Penske Racing, where he won the Nationwide Series championship in his first year with the team.

In his dream 2012 season, Keselowski collected five race victories starting at Bristol in March, following up with wins at Talladega, Kentucky, and Dover. He was the first driver to clinch a spot in the ten-race playoff Chase, where he fought five-time champion Jimmie Johnson and veteran Clint Boyer down to the wire. With his 15th place finish at Homestead, Keselowski locked up the championship with his Miller Lite-sponsored Dodge Charger.

“It means the world. It really does,” Keselowski said. “I’ve got the best team in racing, and I’m just so thrilled to be a part of it. From the top down, Roger Penske, crew chief Paul Wolfe, everybody else, the crew guys, and my family. It means so much.”

SEMA 2012 Recap

Sema-2012-recap4

The greatest modified vehicles from around the world were showcased at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas last week, and we gave you the all-access pass right here on REDLINE Dodge. In case you didn’t get a chance to tune in to our live stream, you can check out some videos from our coverage at livestream.com/dodge.

Here are some of the highlights you may have missed:

The Mopar Press Conference made headlines when Pietro Gorlier, President and CEO of Mopar, and comedian Jeff Dunham took the stage for some major announcements regarding newly released performance engines and performance calibrations that will be available for select 2011, 2012 and 2013 Chrysler Group vehicles. The duo also unveiled a special custom Dodge Challenger called “Project Ultraviolet.” Read the official press release here.

As the cover was removed from the customized 2013 UFC “Fight for Your Dart” Dodge Dart, both the contest winner Stephen Seipel and UFC fighter Demetrius “Mighty Mouse” Johnson were in awe of Kelderman’s one-of-a-kind design. The lime green matte paint covering the exterior of the Dart also appears on the interior trim and rims. The Dart was on display during the entire week of SEMA.

After winning the Daytona 500 back in 1964, the Plymouth Belvedere was restored and revealed to the public for the very first time. The historic racer designed and built by Ray Evernham flaunted its old-school American style with modern NASCAR technology that made it a champion.

Dodge at the SEMA Show through the Years

Dodge has sent some memorable show cars and concepts to the SEMA Show in Las Vegas over the years.  With the 2012 show set to open next week, let’s take a look back at a few highlights from the annual performance industry trade show.

For the 2006 show, Dodge set the car biz on its ear with the Challenger Super Stock (above). The production Challengers were not even in the showrooms yet, but Dodge was already signaling its intentions to rule the drag strips with this red, white, and blue prototype. After SEMA, the race-prepped Challenger became the proof of concept vehicle for Dodge’s Drag Pak program.

The 2002 Dodge Stratus Turbo SEMA Concept, above, featured deep Cobalt Blue paint, 18-inch chrome alloy wheels, a custom nose, and a functional hood scoop. But the not-so-secret ingredient was a 2.4L engine and turbocharger package that developed 240 hp.

The Dodge Avenger Tuner Stormtrooper turned heads at SEMA 2009 with pearl white exterior paint, matching wheels, and a custom splitter and rear spoiler. Four bucket seats borrowed from a Charger SRT8 provided the interior comfort, while a 4.0L V6 from the Dodge Nitro supplied the push. And you can be sure the Dodges at SEMA this year will be equally special.
