New Dodge Charger Pursuit Helps Keep Officers Safe

A police officer’s job is dangerous, but Dodge is offering a new tool to help officers stay safe. The 2017 Dodge Charger Pursuit, the Dodge law enforcement vehicle, will be equipped with technology that can detect people sneaking up behind the vehicle. Dodge collaborated with California vehicle control systems maker InterMotive on this feature in response to ambush attacks on police officers this last year.

The new 2017 Dodge Charger Pursuit will feature rear parking sensors and backup cameras that will sense if a person is approaching from behind. The vehicle will flash its rear lights, lock all doors, roll up the front windows, and display a video feed from the backup camera. This technology will help police officers stay safe when parked. In a press release Jeff Kommor, Fiat Chrysler VP of Fleet Sales, said “while it does not replace vigilance, this technology acts as a second set of eyes and provides police officers with added peace of mind when they are in a parked Charger Pursuit.”

These safety features come standard in every 2017 Charger Pursuit, no extra cost for police agencies.
