Winter Driving Tips

During Winter, driving in many parts of New Mexico becomes more challenging. Icy roads and blowing snow sometimes create perilous driving conditions. The folks at Melloy Dodge Ram Fiat want to promote driving safety. To stay safe on your excursions this Winter, check out these useful driving safety tips:

 1. Avoid driving in locations subject to hazardous weather or areas with weather warnings.
 2. Slow down; excessive speed sometimes causes accidents on icy roads.
 3. Refrain from using cruise control while traveling during icy conditions.
 4. Give yourself extra space between your vehicle and the cars ahead of you along the road.
 5. Never stop your car on the road while traveling uphill.
 6. Try and accelerate and decelerate more slowly than usual but avoid coming to a full stop during your journey.
 7. If your car begins to slide across the ice, gently turn the wheel into the spin in order to regain traction before correcting the slide.
 8. Prepare in advance by keeping an emergency kit containing blankets, food, water, medicines, a cell phone, and a snow scraping tool available in your vehicle.
 9. Inflate your tires within recommended ranges; obtain a tire tread inspection before winter weather arrives.
 8. Ask a technician to check your vehicles’ battery, heating and cooling system, and brakes before the cold weather arrives.
 9. Replace any heavily worn windshield wipers.

It is important to always be prepared when it comes to driving in inclement weather. To ensure your vehicle is Winter ready, and you and your loved ones are safe, come see the experts at Melloy Dodge! We look forward to helping you maintain your vehicle.
