Effective Ways to Keep Your Auto AC Running Cool

Spring weather is here, which means the team at Melloy Dodge wants to help you stay cool in your vehicle. If you’re a New Mexico resident, you know how important it is to have AC in your vehicle on a hot day. Follow these guidelines to keep your car’s cooling system working great during the Spring and Summer heat.

Check The Temperature

If your AC isn’t blowing cold air, then you may need to replace the cabin air filter. If equipped, we recommend using a thermometer to check that the unit is working correctly. Place the thermometer into the vent in your vehicle. If it’s reading too hot, there may be dust on the filter that’s preventing the air from circulating properly.

Don’t “Warm Up” Your Air Conditioner

The cooling system in your automobile works most effectively when the car is being driven. The car’s engine is what makes your air conditioner work, so running it while the car’s not in motion will only waste gas. If the heat in the car is too much for you when you initially get in, simply open the back windows for a moment while running the fan. This will swiftly blow the hot air out. Just don’t forget to roll up the windows.

Use The Air Conditioning Wisely

It's common for drivers to want to turn up the air conditioning to its highest temperature setting, but it's best to set it at the lowest temperature instead. This will save on gas and help keep the air quality inside the car at a healthy level. Adjust the fans to assist in creating a comfortable environment for all of the passengers.

It's always a good idea to be prepared before the hot weather hits. For more automotive tips and tricks, visit our website at melloydodge.com!
