Resetting TPMS

Now that temperatures are dropping in New Mexico, you may notice your Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) light up. If you have recently been alarmed by this emergency light, there is no need to worry. Melloy Dodge is here to keep you educated on your vehicle’s safety.

Vehicle emergency lights are nothing to be alarmed over. During colder months, it is common for the TPMS light to pop on. The TPMS light is a dashboard alert that notifies you when one or more of your tires is low. Depending on your vehicle, tire pressure is monitored by your ABS system or a battery-powered sensor mounted on each tire. Under-inflated tires pose a safety risk, which makes your Tire Pressure Monitoring System is an important safety feature.

TPMS alerts may be due to low tire pressure (your tires may be under-inflated), or your TPMS itself may need to be serviced. Different TPMS systems have different repair and service options. Most TPMS system sensors do not have removable batteries, which means the entire sensor must be replaced when there are battery issues. Depending on the issue, the TPMS may also need resetting. We always advise you to follow manufacturer recommendations in your vehicle’s owner’s manual.
