Springtime Auto Maintenance in New Mexico

The weather in Albuquerque and the rest of the Southwest takes a toll on cars and trucks. Hot sun, cold nights and lots of dust can cause damage. Tires, brakes, filters, and more can all be affected by New Mexico’s weather conditions.
At Melloy Dodge, New Mexico’s best source for Dodge cars and Ram trucks, we want your vehicles to run as smoothly as possible. Spring is the perfect time to help your car recover from winter and prepare for the heat of summer.

Five Things to Check During Springtime Vehicle Maintenance
1. Motor Oil. This vehicle maintenance step will help prolong the life of your engine. After a winter of cold morning starts, your motor oil may begin to wear. Replace your oil according to the manufacturer’s schedule or when the oil looks thick or dirty.

2. Battery. A long, cold winter can shorten battery life. Before summer arrives, ensure your battery is in good shape by servicing your vehicle at the Melloy Dodge Express Lane.

3. Tires. Rough terrain can cause irregular tire wear. Rotating your tires this spring will help keep wear evenly. Remember to always make sure tires are properly inflated to the manufacturer recommended pressure.

4. Coolant. Summer heat can have a harsh effect on your engine. Avoid overheating by visiting our Express Lane service and ensure the vehicle has the right coolant strength.

5. Filters. Thanks to the desert terrain and dry air, filters can get clogged with dust and particles. Make sure to check the intake filter and cabin filter and replace them if needed.

Taking a little time for vehicle maintenance can keep your car or truck in good condition.

What You Need to Know if Your Vehicle is Recalled

What you should do if your vehicle is recalled.
The most important part of any recall is ensuring the safety of the occupants of the vehicle. Vehicle manufacturers want to make sure that when you drive off the lot in your new or used vehicle that you and your loved ones are safe. If a new or potential issue arises, manufacturers are required to send out a notice informing you about that issue. Often, that notice is sent before parts are even available to resolve the issue. You’ll be given information on the specific defect of your vehicle along with instructions on where to bring it in for repair, which is usually the dealership. Once parts are available, the dealership will address any issues with the recall and replace any parts that may cause future problems.

Potential Issues.
Only defects that could be a safety threat will result in a recall. Routine maintenance is the owner’s responsibility and separate from recalls. Some examples of recalls might include windshield wiper arms, transmission, steering, fuel systems, airbags, and seat belts can all be included in a recall. If you’ve never had a recall before, don’t worry about a costly repair, these issues will be repaired at no cost to you.

What to do?
For obvious reasons, don’t take a recall lightly. To see if your vehicle has outstanding recalls, visit the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) website or here. Drivers can enter their vehicle identification number (VIN) to determine whether their vehicles have been affected.
Melloy Dodge is here to answer all the questions and concerns about recent recalls. Some parts may not be available upon receipt of the recall postcard. We specialize in Dodge and Ram vehicles and we’re located at 9621 Coors Blvd NW, just north of Paseo Del Norte.
