Tips to Maximize Gas Mileage

With the price of gas where it is, it’s important to learn how to conserve and make the most out of your gas mileage. It may come as a surprise, but how you drive directly affects your fuel economy. The experts at
Melloy Dodge are here with a few tips to help you maximize your gas mileage.

1. Pay attention to speed- On most vehicles, fuel economy peaks at 50mph. Reducing highway speeds by 5 to 10 miles per hour can increase your fuel economy by 7 to 14 percent!

2. Make a plan- Before you take a trip or long drive, map the most efficient route to minimize unnecessary driving.

3. Drive conservatively- Avoid accelerating rapidly or slamming on the breaks, as these can lower fuel economy.

4. Avoid rush hour- If you can, avoid commuting during peak traffic times.

5. Use cruise control- Driving consistently, especially on highways, saves gas. Make sure never to use cruise control on slippery roads or inclement weather, as it impacts vehicle control.

6. Warm the engine- When temperatures drop, start the engine and then drive the car normally to warm the engine. Bringing the engine to operating temperature will help you save on gas. Never leave your vehicle unattended while it’s warming up.

Practicing just a few of these tips can help you maximize gas mileage and make a dramatic difference in how much you spend on gas. The team at Melloy Dodge in Albuquerque is here to help you save!
