The Ultimate Accident Checklist

You’re headed down the road and a distracted driver rear-ends you. Sound familiar? The staff at Melloy Dodge knows what you’re going through, so we’re offering these helpful tips in case you’re involved in an accident. An accident happens while commuting to work or just going to the grocery store. It's never a pleasant experience and can result in high emotions and confusion. However, it's important to remember that there are certain steps that you must follow after an accident. Here is a checklist to help you get what you need for insurance and possible lawsuits.

  • Make Sure No One is Injured – Immediately after an accident, ensure that you and anyone else in the car and the other driver(s) are not injured. Stay calm to maintain control of the situation.
  • Pull Over to the Side of the Road – If the cars involved in an accident are still drivable, it's best to move to the side of the road or a nearby parking lot. Use your hazard lights to signal other drivers of the issue.
  • Call the Police – Call the authorities so they can properly file a police report. Stick to the facts when giving your account of what happened. Don't forget to take note of the officer's name and badge number who is assisting you and be sure to request a copy of the filed report.
  • Exchange Information – While waiting for the police to arrive, exchange information with the other driver: swap insurance, driver's license, plate, name, address, and phone number.
  • Gather Additional Accident Evidence – Take pictures of the damage to all vehicles involved and record videos of the scene. Collect details on makes and models and gather information from any witnesses present. Consider including road signs or other landmarks that could help in an insurance claim.
  • Document the Occurrence – Write down everything that happened on paper, including the location, date, and time. This can be done after the police report and information exchange is completed.
  • Contact Your Insurance Agency – Call your insurance company immediately to report the accident. It is part of your policy to do so promptly, and you can use this time to gather information to file a claim.

The outcome of an accident will rely on the determination of fault by insurance companies and the actions of the involved drivers in filing claims. If no one accepts responsibility, it may lead to an inquiry and potential legal action. Adhering to these guidelines will put you in a good position for the following stages of the accident process. We aim for you to leave Melloy Dodge in your new car feeling secure and ready in case of an unfortunate event.

What To Keep in Your Car for Road Trips

Road trips are a beloved way to escape, whether it's a solo adventure or with loved ones. However, many of us have experienced the sudden panic of realizing we forgot something important while cruising down the highway. To avoid this, here are some items that can ensure a safe and enjoyable journey, courtesy of Melloy Dodge

Essentials

In addition to the essential documents such as your license, registration, and insurance that you likely already have with you or in your vehicle, there are some important items you should remember to bring. First and foremost, pack enough water and food to ensure your safety. It's better to have more than enough water to stay hydrated in case of an emergency. When it comes to food, it's a good idea to bring a variety of salty and sweet snacks. Trail mix and fruit are great options that provide energy and are good for your body. Outside of that, having a set of tools (tire pressure gauge, jumper cables, duct tape, etc.) and a flashlight in your car for emergencies is important. These can come in handy for quick fixes and providing extra light when needed.

Extra Clothing and Blankets

It's crucial to remember to pack a few articles of clothing and some blankets for unexpected situations. These items can keep you cozy if you have to rest inside your vehicle or provide additional warmth if your car unexpectedly breaks down during cold weather. Additionally, when you're outside of your car, blankets can come in handy as a cushion to lay on if you need to pull over to a safe location and inspect your vehicle for any damage or make necessary repairs.

Medical Supplies

An on-the-go first aid kit will serve you well on your road trips because accidents and illnesses tend to occur at the most inconvenient moments. Things like bandages, antibiotic ointment, and prescription medicines are a must, but remember over-the-counter pain, allergy, and anti-diarrheal medications to safeguard yourself if you start feeling unwell.

As you embark on your next road trip, consider these insights for the winding roads ahead. Adventure awaits, and with the right gear and a reliable vehicle like a Dodge Durango or Hornet, you'll be ready to enjoy every moment and make the most of every mile. Wishing you a safe and memorable journey, full of unforgettable experiences from start to finish.

August Spotlight Model - 2023 RAM 1500

The J.D. Power Initial Quality study for 2023 ranked the RAM brand as #2, only behind Dodge, meaning when you purchase RAM, you know you're getting a brand dedicated to providing outstanding-quality vehicles. One of the better driving and most comfortable pickups on the market, a RAM 1500 is sure to please its buyers, plus it’s the top-rated of all the trucks manufactured.

Back for this version is Ram's iconic towing power with the feel of a true luxury pickup. With a towing capacity of up to 11,600 lbs., anything from a work trailer to a 30-foot camper can easily be towed by the 1500. The 2023 RAM 1500, despite its size, still manages to provide decent fuel efficiency, particularly for its non-TRX model. Car And Driver tested both the V-6 and larger V-8, noting their separate capabilities and that "models equipped with air suspension even have an adjustable ride height, which aids fuel efficiency and off-road performance."

The interior of the RAM 1500 also stands up proudly to its truck rivals. Most versions come standard with heated/ventilated seats and a panoramic sunroof, with the higher trims having luxurious leather and wood details. The 1500s cab provides superior space with a ton of inside storage. Furthermore, depending on the trim, you'll have an 8.4-inch or 12-inch with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility. Additionally, with a five-star safety rating, you can feel secure in the 1500, which features driver-assisting technology like emergency braking and lane assist.

Overall, the 2023 Ram 1500 offers a blend of true truck power, luxury, and functionality that impresses all truck drivers alike.
